NEWS & TIPS - FEBRUARY 2011Support Naturopathic Medicine in NH!
HB 351, a bill requesting insurance parity for Naturopathic Doctors, will be heard by the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs Committee on March 3, 2011 at 9am in the Legislative Office Building.
Join other supporters of this bill by forwarding a copy of the letter below - endorsed by the AANP - to members of New Hampshire's House Commerce and Consumer Affairs Committee before this crucial vote.
"HB 351, an act providing insurance parity for licensed naturopathic doctors, seeks to decrease health care costs, improve access to primary care, and support a free market.
HB 351 does not suggest coverage for any new services or treatments. It would provide coverage for the same services currently delivered by other primary care physicians- services like annual physical exams, children’s check-ups, pap smears, mammograms, and cholesterol screening. These preventive services are essential to keep health care costs low, and we have a shortage of primary care providers in New Hampshire.
The legislature evaluated the rigorous training of naturopathic doctors over 15 years ago and concluded that they are well-trained and can fully practice as primary care providers. HB 351 will remove the economic barrier that many patients face and finally allow NH citizens to access these primary care providers, especially important in this time of need."

Holiday Party Strategies
Juggling drinks and small plates, shaking hands and holding
conversations can really take your attention away from what's
going into your mouth. Use these tips to help prevent
overeating.
Arrive fashionably late and make sure
you are not too hungry.
Have a tentative plan. Practice how
you will politely say no to the host or hostess when you choose
not to eat or drink a particular food or beverage.
Bring your favorite healthy appetizer
to share.
When you arrive at the party, do not
rush to the food. Make the party a social event. Sit and chat
away from the food table.
Limit alcohol. The calories add up
fast and it can interfere with good intentions for healthy
eating.
Make only one trip to the food
table.
Look for appetizers that include
vegetables or fruit. Shrimp cocktail, salmon and white fish are
healthier choices. Choose cocktail sauce or lemon and horseradish
as a condiment. Skip the fried or fatty appetizers.
Look over the entire buffet table
before making your choices. Save your splurges for foods that are
really worth it.
Find a way to minimize calories prior
to the party, but don't skip meals. One great holiday
strategy is to use a well-balanced protein shake to replace some
meals or snacks on party day, the day before and day
after.
Enjoy your holiday without weight
gain!
